On the radar!
We are wasting no more time to open-up lines of communication with discerning role players – writers, directors, producers, performers, photographers, designers and others to begin to schedule veritable indoor and outdoor rehearsals and performance at AG.
Here is a glimpse of a number of initiatives we have been working on:

1. Logo Redesign Competition: Our current logo does not pack enough punch on the landing. The logo illustrates some early ideas we have worked on during our start-up. We need a new logo to appeal to a wider audience, and depict more of what we do and the diverse nature of artists and the audience that come to support them. We are offering $300 for the best competitive logo re-design. We thought the best way to create a new logo is to open it up to our Arts Garage community. The winner will be paid directly by the Arts Garage for the full prize amount, excluding any third party transfer fees. If you are creative or know someone who is, visit our website at www.theartsgarage.com/logo-competition for details.

2. Performance based Grants – Awards of $10,000: In an effort to increase the number of performance based events on our calendar; we are offering $10,000 performance-Grants to encourage art organizations, groups and individuals to collaborate with the Arts Garage to underwrite the performance of works they may have on the shelves and, or in the works. We are looking to award ten (10) $1,000 scholarship-certificates to include rehearsal space, promotion and marketing of works that will culminate to a summer (indoor and, or outdoor) performance at the Arts Garage. We may underwriting a number of performance for the February’s Black History Month and March’s Women History Month, Mother’s Day, Memorial Day, 4th of July and other holidays. We are looking for Theater, Body Painting, Film projects, Spoken Word, Comedy, Food Demonstration, and Photo Exhibits. For details, visit our website at www.theartsgarage.com/scholarships

3. Kitchen Business: We are outsourcing our kitchen to Ms. Angies- food-for-life – to add delectable fine dining to your Arts Garage experience on any occasion. Check-out www.theartsgarage.com/restaurant for current menu. While the kitchen hour is currently driven by our event calendar, Food-for-life addition to AG is part of a larger plan to ultimately be able to offer breakfast, lunch and dinner services. Ms. Angie is also a Culinary Strategist, her expansive website can be found at www.msangiesfoodforlife.com. Return to check our event-calendar for future food demonstrations.

4. Brighter Future: We are actively working on the following projects in 2010:
(a) Undertake necessary measures to increase the feeling of safety and security in and around the Arts Garage campus.
(b) Address the two (2) remaining Building Code issues necessary to obtain a Certificate of Occupancy for AG 2nd floor operation.
(3) Expand to an adjoining property at 1516 Parrish Street to rent out as gallery and studios for artists in need of space. Visit www.theartsgarage.com/rendering for a conceptual snap-shot of the “look and feel” of the future of the Arts Garage. Page Titled as (Logo re-Design Competition)

LOGO REDESIGN: Our current logo does not pack enough punch on the landing. The logo (see icon above) shows some early ideas we have worked on during our start-up. We now need a logo to appeal to a wider audience, and illustrate more of what we do as a multi faceted arts and entertainment venue with aspirations to market to the tourism and hospitality industry.

There are several key audiences we want to communicate with. They include artists, performers, and the tourism and hospitality industry. Some will be aware of our brand, but not know much about what we do. We want to give people a quick idea of the variety of events we offer, and entice them to visit our website and further to buy merchandise – products and services- that bear our logo.

These are just examples of the kind of themes we want illustrated in the design. As for the designs themselves we would prefer unique illustrations/artwork rather than photography. However should you choose to incorporate photography, make sure that the images you use are rights-free and include the link of the image from whatever stock photography site you used. The dimensions for the designs are 400 x 300, however if possible try and make the design scaleable/alterable – this is easier if its vector artwork. The logo should work well for use on our website, and be accompanied with designs for business card, stationery, brochure, flyer, poster, t-shirts and other merchandising items you can think of, including umbrellas, pos-it-notes and wind-breakers. If you think of something new, unique or related then feel free to create it.

It is important to understand that the basic visual design of our branding and web site are great. We are not looking to redefine our brand as an art, entertainment and nightlife venue. We are looking for something that will resonate in the art and tourism markets but also, as we grow, expand to strategies beyond the tourism and hospitality industry. Be Creative!
